- Overall, the purpose of this website is to create an academic argument as part of a conversation regarding Colombia's extremely controversial civil war transition tactics with the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia).
- More specifically: controversy regarding the failed peace referendum of October 2016 and congressionally approved peace deal of November 24th, 2016.
Main Inquiry & Agonism
- Focus question/inquiry: Does a peace deal between the Colombian Government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia compromise justice for peace, regardless of the modifications made between the failed October and the successful November 2016 peace deals.
- Main agonism/ thesis statement: The idea of a peace deal between the nation of Colombia and the FARC compromises justice for peace because it was an abrupt deal exonerates and even politically legitimizes a terrorist group not out of free will, but in a desperate reach towards a much needed peaceful future.
- Colombia’s current state of division and tension was exemplified through the failed peace referendum of October 2016, evidently showing that the deal between the federal government and the FARC needed to at least be re-negotiated in a non-partisan manner to encapsulate both peace and justice as much as possible in this highly emotional nation.
- This new deal did not do anything authentic in terms of justice, especially since it did not allow the Colombian citzens to vote, or implement any sanctions or punishments agaisnt FARC.
